Take a good look at the furniture and give an honest appraisal.
Make sure that your donation is an item that the non-profit will be able to accept.
If a list of excluded items isn’t on a company’s website, call them if you have questions. They would much rather tell you ahead of time than a need to turn you away at the door.
Note: Some organizations will only accept furniture donations that can be handled by one person.
Decide where you want to donate.
There are many organizations who would be happy to receive your donation. You can ask your friends or do
a little research on the Internet to decide which is right for you. There are national non-profits and local ones.
Often a donation to a national organization will be used locally. If that is important to you, be sure to ask.
Note: As a general rule, the national organization will arrange a pick-up. Local organizations often do not have the means to do so National Organizations.

PickUpMyDonation.com - PickUpMyDonation.com is also an online service. You enter your zip code, and it matches you with charities in your area needing that type of donation. Choose where you want to donate, and PickUpMyDonation.com will arrange the pick-up.
The Salvation Army – All furniture donations are used to provide services for substance abuse treatment and recovery programs.
Goodwill Industries – Eighty-two percent of Goodwill’s resale revenue goes into training programs and employment for people with disabilities
Habitat For Humanity ReStore – All the money from donated goods is used to build decent housing for people in need.
Keep track of what you donate and get receipts.
You can receive a deduction on your income taxes for goods donated to non-profit organizations. You can get the amount you may claim from the IRS publication Determining the Value of Donated Property. And always get a receipt.
